Large Capacity Screw Piles- True Helix vs. Non True Helix Pile Behavior

Mamdouh Nasr, ALMITA Manufacturing Ltd.
This presentation will introduce the different design methods for screw piles (separate plates vs cylindrical shear method). The results of fully instrumented screw piles tested in Alberta will be presented and the difference in behavior of true-helix screw piles vs non-true-helix screw piles subjected to vertical will be discussed. Pile load tests data for a research project in Barbados where screw piles were used to sustain large uplift forces in soft coral and loose sand, and expandable grout was used to obtain the pile uplift capacity, will also be presented.
